Brazil strengthens its position as the world’s third-largest pork exporter

Brazil has reinforced its position in the global pork market, becoming the world’s third-largest pork exporter. In 2025, the country surpassed Canada in export volumes and now ranks behind only the European Union and the United States.

According to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), Brazil’s pork exports reached a record 1.51 million tonnes in 2025, up 11.6% from the previous year. Canada, by comparison, exported around 1.45 million tonnes. The growth was driven by market diversification, particularly strong demand from Asian countries, competitive production costs, and high sanitary standards.

The domestic market also showed strong performance. Data from the Brazilian Association of Pork Producers (ABCS) indicate that pork consumption reached a record 20 kg per capita in 2025, reflecting the growing role of pork in the diets of Brazilian consumers.

The combination of rising exports and expanding domestic demand has strengthened the sector’s resilience. A stronger home market helps reduce exposure to fluctuations in international markets and supports greater long-term stability for producers.

ABCS President Marcelo Lopes said the achievement reflects years of investment across the production chain in animal health, productivity, genetics, technology, and animal welfare. According to him, Brazil’s pork industry is entering a phase of consolidation marked by improved efficiency, market expansion, and a stronger position in the global pork trade.
