Brazil: Soybean harvest nears the final stretch and reaches 92% of the area
The soybean harvest in Brazil is moving toward its final stretch, with approximately 92% of the total area already reaped, with completion in the states of the Midwest and Paraná. In the Northeast, work is proceeding at a slower pace and within the expected seasonality, while Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina have registered good progress in recent days.
According to a survey by Safras & Mercado, through April 17, nearly 91.8% of the total cultivated area had been reaped, surpassing the 88.9% registered in the same period in 2024 and also the five-year average, which is 91.4%. In Rio Grande do Sul, approximately 63% of the planted area (estimated at 6.87 mln hectares) has been reaped — the equivalent of roughly 4.33 mln hectares. The previous year, the rate was 50%, while the historical average for the period is 63.6%.
In the states of the Midwest — Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, and Minas Gerais —, as well as São Paulo, work has already been practically completed, with only small areas remaining, without a significant impact on the national progress. In Santa Catarina, approximately 80% of the area has been reaped, which represents 664 thousand hectares of the 830 thousand projected. The pace is above the 67% observed in the same period last year and the five-year average of 78.8%.
In the states of MATOPIBA, farm machines continue to advance well, with harvest percentages varying between 78% and 92%, depending on region, in line with the performance of the same period last year.
The climate maps indicate average levels of precipitation between April 20 and 26, with scattered rains and lower moisture over the South of the country. For the period between April 27 and May 3, no major changes are expected: rainfall should be more concentrated in the northern states, while most other regions tend to record lower volumes and more scattered moisture.
Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on strategic directions for the agricultural sector through 2030, including investments, energy independence, processing, and exports of high-value products.
