Argentina could export a record 10 mln tons of corn in two months

Argentina’s corn exports could reach a record 10 mln tons in August–September, supported by a bumper harvest and strong international demand. The country normally exports around 3 mln tons during these two months. The 2025/26 corn crop is estimated at 71.7 mln tons, nearly 20% above the previous record.

Demand from North Africa has become one of the main drivers of exports, as buyers seek alternatives to Ukrainian grain amid disruptions to Black Sea shipments. In January–July, Argentina increased corn exports to the region by 45% to 6.5 mln tons, while its overall corn exports rose by 15% over the same period.

Morocco recorded the strongest increase in purchases of Argentine corn, with imports surging 133% to 1.55 mln tons. Egypt increased purchases by 48% to 2.4 mln tons, while Algeria raised imports by 10% to 2.4 mln tons. These countries are traditionally important markets for Black Sea grain.

Argentina is also benefiting from weaker competition from Brazil. Brazilian corn exports have declined by nearly 20% from a record 53 mln tons over the past three years, as increasing volumes of corn are being directed to the country’s domestic ethanol industry.

Brazil’s domestic corn consumption increased by 7.1% to 98 mln tons in 2025/26. The combination of Argentina’s record crop, stronger demand from North Africa and reduced competition from Brazil is strengthening Argentina’s position in the global corn market.
