Brazil poultry exports rise while pork shipments fall 11%
Brazil exported 500.3 thsd tons of poultry products in September, up 3.7% year-on-year, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). Export revenue increased by 14.7% to $984.2 mln.
In January–September, Brazilian poultry exports reached 4.421 mln tons, up 14% year-on-year. Export revenue rose by 21% to $8.673 bln, indicating that shipment value grew faster than physical volumes.
The UAE was the largest buyer in September, taking 45.9 thsd tons, up 23.3% year-on-year. Shipments to the EU reached 43.5 thsd tons, while China imported 40.9 thsd tons. The sharp increases to these two markets largely reflect a low comparison base last year following temporary restrictions related to an avian influenza outbreak in Brazil.
Meanwhile, pork exports fell by 11% in September to 135 thsd tons, while revenue declined by 21.5% to $289.3 mln. The Philippines remained the largest market, although shipments there dropped by almost 48%, while exports to Japan, Chile and Argentina increased significantly.
Despite the September decline, Brazil exported 1.192 mln tons of pork in the first nine months of the year, up 6.2% year-on-year. Revenue increased by 1.3% to $2.737 bln, while growing shipments to new and alternative markets, including Malaysia, continued to support the sector’s overall performance.
