Brazil pork meat exports drop in May – Cepea

After hitting a record considering the month of April and the best performance of 2024, Brazil pork meat exports dropped in May, according to a recent market report from Cepea.

However, the daily average of shipments in May was practically the same as that verified in April, of 4.4 thousand tons. Therefore, the monthly decrease is attributed to the lower number of producing days in May (21 days) compared to that in April (22 days), according to data from Secex. This scenario highlights that exports continue to move at a firm pace.

In May, Brazil shipped 103.3 thousand tons of pork meat, 7.4% less than in April, but 2.7% higher compared to that in May of last year. The income obtained with shipments also dropped.

Secex indicates that it totalled BRL 1.15 billion in May this year, 6.7% less than in April and moving down 7.5% against May/23.

In the domestic market, sales of live pigs and pork meat increased in early June, boosting quotations in all regions surveyed by Cepea – prices were moving down since the second fortnight of May.
