Brazil exports more soybean oil in eight months than in all of 2025
Brazil exported approximately 1.57 mln tons of soybean oil in January–August 2026, exceeding shipments for the whole of 2025, when exports totaled around 1.36 mln tons. Export growth comes amid expanding domestic crushing capacity and increasing soybean oil production, despite consistently strong demand from the biodiesel industry. According to the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries (Abiove), soybean oil exports could reach 1.8 mln tons in 2026.
Abiove expects Brazil’s soybean oil production to reach 12.8 mln tons in 2026. This will be supported by an increase in soybean crushing to 63.5 mln tons, up 8.2% from the previous year. Domestic demand for feedstock used in biodiesel production remains one of the main drivers of the processing industry’s development. At the same time, expanding crushing volumes allow Brazil to increase soybean oil shipments to international markets.
According to Abiove’s October survey, Brazil’s installed oilseed processing capacity increased by 13.1% year-on-year to 86.4 mln tons annually. The number of active processing plants rose from 131 to 148, while the number of companies operating in the sector increased from 75 to 89. The expansion of the production base creates additional opportunities for soybean oil and meal output, strengthening Brazil’s position in the global market for processed oilseed products.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s National Supply Company (Conab), in its October 15 forecast, estimated the 2026/27 soybean harvest at a record 181.62 mln tons. This is 1.21 mln tons, or 0.7%, above the previous season’s estimate of 180.41 mln tons. Soybean planted area is expected to increase by 1.4% to 49.31 mln ha, while average yields are projected at 3.68 t/ha, down 0.8% year-on-year.
According to Conab, Brazilian soybean exports could increase by 1.51% to 117.97 mln tons in the MY 2026/27, while soybean meal shipments are projected to grow by 3.06% to 27.1 mln tons. Thus, Brazil continues to expand not only raw commodity exports but also the production and international shipments of processed products. The combination of a record soybean harvest, expanding crushing capacity and demand from the biodiesel industry creates favorable conditions for further development of Brazil’s vegetable oil sector.
