Brazil is strengthening its presence in China’s feed grain market by increasing shipments of corn, sorghum and feed coproducts. According to USDA FAS, China’s corn imports in 2026/27 are forecast at around 6 mln tons, while US corn remains less competitive on a landed-cost basis.

Against this backdrop, Brazilian corn shipments to China are increasing, while Argentina also returned to commercial corn trade with the country in 2026. Rising supplies from South America are putting additional pressure on US exporters.

Competition is particularly visible in the sorghum market. China imported 4.9 mln tons of sorghum in January–July, including 3 mln tons from the United States. At the same time, Brazil is rapidly expanding exports and could ship 2–3 mln tons of sorghum to China in 2026.

Brazil has also become China’s only supplier of DDGS so far in 2026. This means the country is expanding its presence not only in grain but also in processed feed products, further increasing competition with US suppliers.

USDA expects China’s feed demand to remain broadly stable, meaning competition for market share will increasingly depend on price, tariff treatment and supply reliability. Expanding exports of corn, sorghum and DDGS are helping Brazil strengthen its position in one of the world’s largest feed markets.
