Australian phosphate fertilizer prices may rise ahead of the 2027 season
Phosphate fertilizer prices in Australia may rise ahead of the 2027 winter cropping season. Importers are delaying MAP and DAP purchases due to high global prices and uncertainty over supplies from the Middle East.
According to Argus, Saudi Arabian MAP was assessed at $802–836/t FOB, around 28% higher than at the beginning of November 2025. Saudi Arabia is a key supplier to Australia, accounting for about 30% of the country’s MAP/DAP imports in 2025.
Some buyers are already securing MAP/DAP and urea cargoes for early 2027 delivery, while others are postponing purchases until farmer demand picks up. For now, weak seasonal demand is partly shielding the domestic market from higher global prices.
However, if importers have to buy at current levels, domestic fertilizer prices could also rise. Higher sulfur prices are adding further pressure by increasing phosphate production costs globally.
November will be a key period for the market, as Australian importers typically arrange the first MAP and DAP cargoes for the new season. These purchases will show how much of the global price increase is passed on to Australian growers.
