Australia plans to expand live cattle export markets by 2035

Australia has developed a ten-year strategy for its live cattle export sector, aimed at expanding overseas markets and attracting more investment by 2035. The plan has already received support from Agriculture Minister Julie Collins.

The strategy was jointly developed by the Australian Livestock Exporters’ Council, LiveCorp, Cattle Australia and Dairy Australia. It calls for closer cooperation between the industry and government, a more stable regulatory environment and stronger public confidence in the live export trade.

One of the key priorities is to create conditions for long-term commercial investment. The industry aims to make the sector more attractive to investors, financial institutions, transport operators and other supply chain participants while improving the competitiveness and predictability of exports.

The strategy also places a strong emphasis on animal welfare and health, as well as more efficient logistics. Australia plans to continue investing in research, development and innovation to further improve standards for livestock handling and transportation.

Indonesia remains central to the strategy as one of the key buyers of Australian live cattle. At the same time, the industry plans to develop other high-potential markets more actively to diversify shipments and support long-term export growth beyond 2035.
