Australia exports 675,516t chickpeas, 1.7Mt lentils in year to September

Australia exported 675,516 tonnes of chickpeas and a record 1,745,433t of lentils in the year to September, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

On chickpeas, Pakistan on 372,858t was the market for 55 percent of the annual shipments, indicating its transition from a containerised to a bulk market.

Bangladesh on 128,833t was the second-biggest market for 2022-23 chickpea shipments, followed by the United Arab Emirates on 63,230t.

On lentils, India was the destination for 47pc of 2022-23 shipments, taking 47pc of the volume, followed by Bangladesh on 261,259t, and the United Arab Emirates on 178,199t.
