Argentina’s pork exports rise 88% in the first half of 2026

Argentina increased its pork exports by almost 88% year-on-year in the first half of 2026. The country shipped an average of 1.535 thsd tons per month to foreign markets, compared with 817 tons in 2025.

Exports peaked in May at 1.912 thsd tons. This was the highest monthly volume in five years, surpassing the previous record of 1.860 thsd tons set in July 2024.

Despite strong export growth, Argentina continues to import significant volumes of pork. Imports reached 6.133 thsd tons in June, up 39.8% from a year earlier. From March through June, monthly imports consistently exceeded 5.7 thsd tons.

Overall, pork imports increased by just 0.3% in volume terms in the first half of the year. However, the value of imports declined by 3.6% as the average import price fell by 3.9%.

The increase in exports is attributed to improvements in product quality, the adoption of modern technologies and an expansion in the number of destination markets. At the same time, high import volumes indicate that Argentina’s domestic market continues to rely heavily on foreign pork supplies.
