According to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, as of March 13, Argentina harvested 1.99 mln tonnes of corn from 229 thsd ha or 3% of the planned area (2% last week, 7% on average for 5 years), yielding 8.71 t/ha.

During the week, due to heavy rains, the number of corn crops in good or excellent condition decreased from 29% to 25%, in satisfactory condition remained at 58%, in poor or very poor condition increased from 13% to 17%.

In the March report, USDA experts raised the forecast of corn production in Argentina by 1 mln tonnes to 56 mln tonnes, which is 20 mln tonnes higher than the 36 mln tonnes harvested last year.

In Brazil, as of March 14, soybeans were harvested on 63% of the area (55% last week, 62% last year), AgRural reports. In Matopiba and Rio Grande do Sul, where unfavorable weather delayed sowing, the harvesting also started. Heavy precipitation on late crops resulted in high soybean yields in these regions.

Corn second crop in Brazil planted 97% of the planned areas (93% a week ago, 91% last year), and in the major producing states, the work has been completed. Currently, traders are concerned about the dry weather in the states of Parana and Mato Grosso do Sul, while in Mato Grosso state there were good rains in March.

According to forecasts, in the coming weeks in Argentina will be dominated by dry weather, and in the Central regions of Brazil will be precipitation, which will contribute to the development of crops and harvesting of corn and increase pressure on the quotes.
