Argentina cuts export taxes on wheat and barley
On May 21, Argentine President Javier Milei announced plans to reduce export taxes on agricultural products. Starting in June 2026, the export tax on wheat and barley will be lowered from 7.5% to 5.5%.
The president also stated that soybean export taxes will be reduced beginning in January 2027, by 0.25–0.5 percentage points. These measures are aimed at supporting the agricultural sector and improving the competitiveness of Argentine goods on global markets.
According to Milei, the government’s goal is to boost exports and strengthen Argentina’s position as one of the leading agricultural suppliers. The decision is also part of a broader economic strategy focused on reducing the overall tax burden.
Separately, the president suggested possible tax cuts for other industries as well, including the automotive and petrochemical sectors. The exact details of these measures are expected to be announced in the coming days.
