Argentina becomes India’s leading edible oil supplier

Argentina has become India’s top supplier of edible oils, highlighting the deepening economic partnership between the two countries and their growing cooperation in food and energy security.

Argentine Ambassador to India Mariano Caucino made the statement during a diplomatic conclave in Hyderabad, noting that India has become Argentina’s sixth-largest trading partner. He added that bilateral relations have expanded significantly since the upgrade to a strategic partnership in 2019.

Caucino stressed that the two economies are highly complementary: India has strong demand for food and energy resources, while Argentina is a major global exporter of agricultural commodities. This complementarity, he said, continues to drive the expansion of trade and investment flows.

Argentina’s role as a key exporter of edible oils has become central to India’s food security framework, particularly as the country remains reliant on imports to meet domestic demand. Beyond agriculture, Argentina is also positioning itself as a partner in energy security and critical minerals supply chains.

Overall, both sides see a strengthening strategic alignment based on mutual needs and comparative advantages, aiming to build more resilient supply chains and deepen long-term economic cooperation.
