Argentina actively exports sunflower seeds to the EU
According to Oil World, in February, Argentina increased its sunseed exports compared to January from 113 to 216 thousand tons, in particular, deliveries to Bulgaria – from 0 to 121 thousand tons, Romania – from 33 to 73 thousand tons, Portugal – from 20 to 21 thousand tons.
It is expected that, thanks to active imports from Argentina, the volume of sunseed processing in the EU in the second half of the MY 2025/26 will be higher than last year, as the reduction in the first half of the season is compensated.
In total, during October-February MY 2025/26, Argentina exported almost 430 thousand tons of sunseed (compared to 25 thousand tons for the same period in 2024/25), of which 290 thousand tons went to the EU, 67 thousand tons to South Africa, and 47 thousand tons to Turkey. Sunseed was also exported to the USA, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, and Algeria.
According to analysts, sunseed production in Argentina in 2026 will increase compared to the previous year from 5.2 to 6.1-6.2 million tons, and exports will reach 800 thousand tons.
