Algeria purchases 400 thsd tons of durum wheat in tender
Algeria’s state grain agency OAIC has purchased approximately 400 thsd tons of durum wheat in an international tender. Although the initial tender volume was set at just 50 thsd tons, Algeria traditionally increases закупівлі beyond the первоначального level, which was the case this time as well.
According to European traders, the purchase price ranged around $324–327 per ton on a C&F basis for larger Panamax shipments. For smaller Handymax shipments, prices were slightly higher, estimated at about $332–334 per ton.
In terms of origin, a significant share of the wheat is believed to come from Canada, particularly grade No.3 Canada Western Amber Durum (CWAD). Some volumes are also expected to be supplied from the United States, reflecting a diversified sourcing strategy.
Shipments are scheduled across several periods from early November through the end of December. This phased delivery approach helps Algeria maintain stable supply levels and ensures consistent availability of grain on the domestic market.
