Algeria purchased 400 thsd tons of wheat in a tender
Algeria’s state grain agency OAIC has held an international tender to purchase milling wheat. According to preliminary trader estimates, the country bought between 390,000 and 420,000 tons of wheat at prices ranging from $268 to $270 per ton on a C&F basis, including freight.
Market participants expect that the Black Sea region will become the main supplier, as exporters from the region have significantly strengthened their positions in the Algerian market in recent years. France had traditionally been Algeria’s leading wheat supplier.
Under the tender terms, shipments of European and Black Sea-origin wheat are scheduled for two delivery periods: July 1–15 and July 16–30, 2026. For wheat sourced from South America or Australia, shipment dates are set one month earlier.
Algeria remains one of the world’s largest wheat importers. Earlier this March, OAIC purchased around 690,000 tons of wheat at approximately $272 per ton, highlighting the country’s consistently strong demand for imported grain.
