The state grain agency OAIC has issued an international tender to purchase milling wheat, European traders reported. The deadline for submitting price offers is set for Wednesday.
The tender specifies shipment in two periods for main supply origins, including Europe: July 1–15 and July 16–31. For wheat originating from South America, Australia, or India, shipment is required one month earlier, traders said.
The nominal purchase volume is set at 50,000 metric tons, although Algeria typically buys significantly larger quantities in practice. Wheat from both the 2025 and 2026 harvests is eligible for delivery under the tender.
Algeria remains one of the world’s largest wheat importers, traditionally relying on the European Union — especially France — as a key supplier. However, exporters from the Black Sea region have been steadily expanding their presence, while diplomatic tensions between Paris and Algiers have sharply reduced French wheat shipments since mid-2024. In the previous tender in late March, Algeria purchased about 700,000 tons at around $272 per ton (C&F), according to traders.
