Afghanistan: Ministry Finalizes Purchase of 38,000 Tons of Wheat

Officials of the ministry emphasized that, under the directive of the leader of the Islamic Emirate, wheat worth over one billion afghani has been purchased from farmers, and the process of transporting and storing it in the country’s silos is ongoing.
Agha Jan Akhund, the deputy minister of the Ministry of AIL, stated that 17,000 tons of wheat will be stored exclusively in the central silo of Kabul.
“All provincial warehouses are now full and locked. The wheat being transferred to the Kabul silo is currently being unloaded, and this process will be completed soon,” he said.
Qudratullah Haqyar, the Director of Strategic Reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, said that the wheat is being stored in a standardized manner.
He further stated that the collected wheat from the provinces of Kandahar, Helmand, Kunduz, and Baghlan has been transferred to the central silo in Kabul, while the wheat from other provinces has been stored in six other silos.
“Based on the decree of the Amir al-Mu’minin, one billion afghani were allocated for purchasing wheat from 11 provinces, and this wheat has been stored in seven other provinces,” he said.
According to Zakaria Rasooli, the Technical Deputy of the Central Silo, there are adequate facilities for storing the accumulated wheat.
Rasooli said: “The wheat is regularly inspected, and if issues such as insect infestation arise, necessary measures, including fumigation, will be undertaken.”
Based on information from the Central Silo officials, there are currently five wheat storage silos across the country. The Kabul silo has a storage capacity of 72,000 tons, Pul-e-Khumri 40,000 tons, Balkh 40,000 tons, and Herat 20,000 tons.
