About 125 vessels queue at Sulina Canal after week-long navigation halt
Around 125 vessels have accumulated near the Sulina Canal after navigation was suspended for almost a week due to adverse weather conditions.
About 80 vessels are currently waiting to enter the canal, while another 45 are waiting to exit. The backlog is increasing pressure on Danube logistics and delaying cargo movements across the region.
Once navigation resumes, operators plan to deploy as many pilots as possible along the 36–44 mile section, with priority given to reducing the outbound queue and easing congestion.
Market participants expect the first days after reopening to be particularly challenging because of the large number of vessels waiting and the need to clear delayed traffic.
The situation at Sulina remains important for Danube exports, as prolonged navigation disruptions can quickly create vessel queues and increase the risk of delays for agricultural cargoes.
