98% of Ukraine’s planned spring crop area has been sown
As of June 8, spring grains and pulses had been sown on 5.882 mln ha in Ukraine, representing 98% of the projected area (6.003 mln ha).
According to the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, sowing progress by crop is as follows:
- wheat — 186.6 thsd ha (100% of the forecast);
- barley — 713.6 thsd ha (95%);
- peas — 259.7 thsd ha (95%);
- oats — 137.5 thsd ha (100%);
- corn — 4.367 mln ha (99%);
- buckwheat — 51.1 thsd ha (97%);
- millet — 37.6 thsd ha (96%).
Sowing of oilseed crops is also nearing completion:
- sunflower has been planted on 4.861 mln ha, or 97% of the planned area;
- soybeans — 1.987 mln ha (97%).
