2024/25 Argentina Soybeans 53.8% Planted vs. 51.7% Last Year

Weekend rains in Argentina were light and favored northeastern Argentina. Rainfall this week will once again be on the light side with cooler temperatures. The soil moisture in Argentina has not been recharged which leaves the country vulnerable to any prolonged period of dry weather. It is not a problem today, but it could be a problem in the future.

Farmers in Argentina could end up planting more late corn than what has originally been expected due to improved corn prices and low numbers of corn leafhoppers. If that turns out to be the case, then the soybean acreage may end up being lower than originally expected.

Soybeans in Argentina were 53.8% planted as of late last week compared to 51.7% last year and 52.7% average. This represents an advance of 9.4% for the week. In the core production areas, the soybeans are approximately 85% planted with 50-70% planted in southern Argentina and less than 1% planted in far northern Argentina. Approximately 69% of the first-crop soybeans have been planted with 13.8% of the double crop soybeans planted. Soil moisture for the soybeans is rated 2% short/very short, 97% favorable/optimum, and 1% surplus. The favorable/optimum percentage is down 1% from the prior week.
