2022 U.S. Corn Rating Declines 3%, Soybeans Decline 2%
Corn – The condition of the 2022 U.S. corn crop declined 3% last week to 64% rated good/excellent. Six states reported improved conditions last week and 12 states reported lower conditions. Most of the improvements were found in the northwestern Corn Belt while most of the declines were found in the central, eastern, and southern areas. The top five rated corn states are: Pennsylvania, Iowa, Wisconsin. North Dakota, and Michigan. The five lowest rated corn states are: North Carolina, Texas, Kentucky, Indiana, and a tie between Ohio and Tennessee.
Soybeans – The condition of the 2022 U.S. soybean crop declined 2% last week to 63% rated good/excellent. Four states indicated that the soybean condition had improved last week, 12 states indicated that the soybean condition had declined last week, and 2 were unchanged. Most of the improvements were found in the far northern and far southern areas while most of the declines were found throughout the Corn Belt. The top five rated soybean states are: Wisconsin, Iowa, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Minnesota. The five lowest rated soybean states are: North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Indiana.
Soil Moisture – The topsoil moisture declined last week with 1 state reporting improved topsoil moisture and 17 states reporting lower topsoil moisture. Louisiana was the only state that reported improved soil moisture last week. The five states with the best soil moisture are: North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota, and Iowa. The five states with the lowest soil moisture are: Kentucky, Arkansas, Indiana, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
