2022 U.S. Corn and Soybean Yields Unchanged
The 2022 U.S. corn yield was left unchanged this week at 169.0 bu/ac and I have a neutral to slightly lower bias going forward.
The condition of the 2022 U.S. corn crop was unchanged last week at 52% rated good/excellent. The corn is 58% mature compared to 72% last year and 61% average and the corn is 12% harvested compared to 17% last year and 14% average.
Dry weather in northern Nebraska, South Dakota, western Iowa, and western Minnesota is allowing for the corn to dry down and encouraging farmers to pick up the harvest pace. In Kansas, the corn is 35% harvested (29% average), Nebraska is 13% harvested (10% average), South Dakota is 8% harvested (5% average) and Iowa is 5% harvested (6% average).
In contrast, wet weather in the eastern Corn Belt has slowed the corn dry down with Illinois 6% harvest (16% average), Indiana is 6% harvested (12% average), and Ohio is 0% harvested (5% average). Corn yields continue to be variable and that will probably continue to be the case.
The 2022 U.S. soybean yield was left unchanged this week at 50.0 bu/ac and I have a neutral bias going forward.
The condition of the 2022 U.S. soybean crop was unchanged last week at 55% rated good/excellent. The soybeans are 63% dropping leaves compared to 73% last year and 65% average and the soybeans are 8% harvested compared to 15% last year and 13% average.
With 63% of the soybeans dropping leaves and generally dryer weather in the forecast for this week, the soybean harvest should accelerate this week. Kansas is 9% harvested (4% average), Nebraska is 13% harvested (14% average), South Dakota is 9% harvested (11% average), and Iowa is 7% harvested (11% average).
Wetter conditions in the eastern Corn Belt has resulted in a slower soybean harvest with Illinois 2% harvested (10% average), Indiana is 5% harvested (11% average), and Ohio is 3% harvested (7% average).
