110,000 tonnes of grain already sent under Grain from Ukraine program
“Four ships carrying a total of 110,000 tonnes of grain have already left Ukrainian ports within the framework of the Grain from Ukraine initiative,” Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solskyi said at a joint meeting of the Government of Ukraine and the European Commission.
Solskyi added that the grain was sent to Ethiopia and Somalia.
He noted that a ship, which will be loaded with grain for Kenya, is on its way to Ukraine. As part of the initiative, grain deliveries to Yemen, Sudan, and other countries are planned.
The minister emphasized that the implementation of the initiative directly depends on the stable operation of the grain corridor. According to Solskyi, the Russian side is obstructing the work of the corridor by deliberately delaying inspections of ships, causing significant queues in the Bosphorus.
As reported, the Grain from Ukraine program was initiated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. It provides for the purchase of Ukrainian grain by partner countries and its delivery to countries suffering from a humanitarian crisis. The program is implemented in partnership with the UN World Food Program.
