1. Greece and Bulgaria consider a railway project alternative to transportation through the Bosphorus

Greece and Bulgaria intend to build a Sea2Sea freight rail corridor to connect northern Greece and Bulgaria with the Romanian border. The market believes that connecting the Danube ports with the Greek port of Thessaloniki could have a significant impact on sales of Serbian, Romanian and Bulgarian grain.

Expected throughput capacity of the corridor is EUR 650 Ml worth of goods per year. The corridor will allow shifting much of sea freight traffic from the Bosphorus to rail transport of the Sea2Sea. The construction contracts will be signed in 2023, and the project is to be completed by 2027-2028.
