Zimbabwe harvested 639,942 tonnes of wheat in 2025, the highest since the crop began in 1966. This year, farmers exceeded the planned target of 600,000 tonnes, providing the country with self-sufficiency in soft wheat.

The achievement was made possible by the government’s agrarian transformation, which involves the active participation of both the private and public sectors. Previously, Zimbabwe could not fully meet its own needs and was forced to import wheat from other countries.

According to the weekly survey by the Rural Development and Advisory Service, harvesting has been completed in all provinces. The total area harvested is 122,011 hectares, which is 98% of the sown area.

The highest production volumes were recorded in the provinces of Mashonaland West – 188,541 tons, Mashonaland Central – 162,646 tons, Mashonaland East – 123,850 tons. The Minister of Lands, Agriculture and Water Resources, Ober Jiri, noted that thanks to the joint work and dedication of farmers, the targets were exceeded and expressed optimism about the next season.
