World grain production to reach record 2.404 bln tons – IGC

Global grain production in the 2025-26 season will rise to a record 2.404 billion tonnes, the International Grains Council (IGC) reported on August 21.
The main growth in production will be provided by corn. According to the forecast, its harvest will amount to 1.299 billion tons of feed grain, 5% more than in the previous year.
The International Grains Council expects increases in wheat, sorghum and oat production. In the 2025-26 season, global wheat production is expected to reach a record 811 million tonnes, up 1.3% from last season.
Wheat and coarse grain consumption is expected to rise 49 million tonnes from last year to a record 2.391 billion tonnes.
After three years of shrinking stocks, the IGC forecasts carryovers to increase by 13 million tonnes by the end of the season. However, the reserves will still be lower than the average.
IGC forecasts growth in global soybean production to a record 430 million tons. Last year, soybeans were produced at 425 million tons. Global soybean consumption will increase by 18 million tons. According to IGC estimates, a 33% decrease in rice prices from last year will offset the rise in corn, barley and soybeans.
