Winter wheat crop conditions slightly deteriorated in the U.S.
U.S. winter wheat crop conditions deteriorated slightly last week due to continued lack of moisture. However, it is still much better than last year.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS USDA) as of April 14, the percentage of winter wheat acreage in excellent to good condition is 55% (56% a week earlier and 27% a year ago). In fair condition are 32% (32% and 34%) of crops, in poor and very poor – 13% (12% and 39%).
Corn sowing was carried out on 6% of the planned area, which is 1% more than the five-year average for the same date. Sowing rates of spring wheat are also ahead of the average by 1%. By April 14, spring wheat had been planted at 7% of the plan.
Last week, U.S. farmers began sowing soybeans. 3% of the planned area has already been sown (1% on average over the last five years as of the same date).
