Winter rye sowing areas for the 2026 harvest are smaller than last year
As of November 11, 2025, Ukrainian farmers had sown 6.389 million hectares of winter crops, i.e. 97.5% of the projected production area, while as of November 19 last year, 6.14 million hectares had been sown.
According to data from the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture published on its website, Ukrainian farmers had already sown 5.31 million hectares of winter grain crops, compared to 5.06 million hectares a year ago.
At the same time, 4.66 million hectares (4.4 million hectares) were sown with winter wheat, 582.2 thousand hectares (610.5 thousand hectares) with barley, and 66.1 thousand hectares (68.6 thousand hectares) with rye.
“Among the leaders in grain crops are Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk and Mykolaiv regions. Grain sowing has already been completed in Dnipropetrovsk, Zakarpattia, Zaporizhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Poltava, Rivne and Chernihiv regions,” the report says.
According to him, rapeseed was planted on an area of 1.082 million hectares as of November 18 (last year – 1.08 million hectares), which is 96% of the projected area. Farmers in all regions have actually completed its sowing.
The Ministry of Economy previously published forecast indicators for the area sown with winter grain crops for the 2026 harvest. The ministry expects that Ukrainian farmers will reduce the area sown with winter crops by 5.1% – to 5.368 million hectares. At the same time, the area under winter wheat will be less by 4.4% – 4.778 million hectares, winter barley – by 2.7%, 576.1 thousand hectares, winter rapeseed – by 5.5%, 1.114 million hectares. At the same time, winter rye crops will be increased by 7.6% – to 69.3 thousand hectares.
