Will Romania realize its corn export potential in 2019/20MY?
For the fourth consecutive year Romania will witness the increase in corn production. UkrAgroConsult expect Romanian corn crop at a level, which is considerably higher than the 5-year average for the country.
Romanian farmers can obtain higher crop thanks to the increase in the seeded area and improvement of the average yield to the record number (+6% y/y). In the last 5 years average yield reached 4.3 MT/ha.
Almost ideal weather conditions in June and July were giving hopes for even more optimistic forecast of the yield. Though, steep growth in the air temperatures and rain deficient August provoked the fast soil moisture evaporation and somewhat limited the crop potential.
In 2019/20MY export potential of Romanian corn is estimated as record large. The projected 2019/20 exports can exceed the previous maximum seen in 2014/15MY (5.9 MMT), still we should not forget about the growing competition within the Black Sea region as well as on the global market. High crop in Ukraine together with good crop in Russia and record production in the countries of South America.
Will Romania manage to realize its corn export potential in 2019/20MY under these conditions?
