Wheat movement issue: Pakistani flour millers threaten to launch province-wide protest in KP
Flour millers in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have warned they will launch a province-wide protest if the “unconstitutional” ban on the movement of wheat and flour from Punjab is not immediately lifted.
Speaking at a meeting held at the Chamber House, Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Junaid Altaf and Pakistan Flour Mills Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (PFMA-KP) Chairman Naeem Butt expressed serious concern over the restrictions imposed by the Punjab government, stating that the move has severely impacted the flour industry and trade in the province, reported The Nation.
Altaf said the policies that led to the closure of the industry must be abandoned.
“We want to promote economic and trade activities,” he said.
He said the federal and provincial governments should take the situation seriously to normalise the state.
According to reports, 90 percent of the flour industry is currently closed.
“Currently, 90 per cent of the flour industry in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been shut down,” Naeem Butt was quoted as saying by The Nation.
