Weather conditions caused Romanian growers to stop spring planting operations
Weather conditions. Subnormal air temperatures persisted in the country this past week (2..4°C below long-term normals). The average air temperature was +2..+15°C.
Thermometers in the north sank to -6°С at night. On March 26, air temperature started rising and snow cover in farming regions melted.
Moisture supply. Abundant precipitation (in the form of sleet and rain) occurred in the south (25 mm over the week, locally up to 50 mm) that eased soil moisture shortages. The northeast received some 15-25 mm. The southeast is still short of soil moisture, as almost no precipitation has been seen there for several weeks in a row now.
The difficult weather conditions caused Romanian growers to stop spring planting operations early that week, UkrAgroConsult reports. Another cold spell with snowstorms and wet snowfalls is forecast to occur in the country on March 31. Precipitation is expected mostly in the southwest, north and central parts of the country.
