Value of U.S. pork exports hit highest level in 3 years
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF), the value of pork exports rose to $70.85 per slaughter head in March, up 12% from the same month last year. This is reported by the US pork portal thepigsite.com.
As the publication writes, this figure is the highest in the last 3 years and the fifth highest ever recorded. As a result, the average for the first quarter of 2024 rose to $64.25 per slaughter head (+7%).
It is also reported that of the total pork produced in March, about 32.2% of meat and 27.9% of pork cuts were exported, significantly higher than the 29.1% and 25% respectively for the same period last year.
Thus, exports accounted for 29.9% of total pork production in the first quarter of 2024, up from 28.2% in the same period of 2023.
