Uzbekistan tightens control over cotton pulp exports
Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Zhamshid Khodzhayev said that contracts for the export of cotton fluff and cellulose are being reviewed due to the risk of sanctions.
“If we do not conduct the necessary checks, the entire system may be subject to sanctions. After that, you will not be able to receive payment – payments simply will not be made, and the situation will become extremely difficult,” Khodzhayev said.
Government officials are checking information about buyers.
“If the buyer is associated with enterprises included in the SDN list (Specially Designated Nationals – a special sanctions list formed by the US Treasury Department – ed.), or there is a risk of using the products for dual purposes, it is necessary to terminate contractual relations,” said Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Abrorkhuzha Turdaliyev.
Cotton cellulose is used to produce gunpowder and cartridges.
