USDA Weekly Grains Inspected For Export Report (Feb. 1): Inspections Take a Dive, Drop 18%

Declining grain inspections for export resumed in in a big way last week after recovering the week before.

According to the Feb. 1 Grains Inspected and/or Weighed for Export report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the total for the week ending Jan. 28 was not quite 3.5 million metric tons, or 18.1% less than the previous week’s total of nearly 4.3 million.

Soybean inspections fell 310,609 metric tons, or just under 15% to 1.8 million metric tons, continuing a downward trend in recent weeks.

After rallying the previous week, corn inspections fell 298,342 metric tons (-21.2%) to 1.1 million while wheat dropped by 174,804 metric tons (-30.6%) to 396,873.

The amount of sorghum inspected. meanwhile, was up 12,356 metric tons (+6.9%) to 191,538.
