USDA forecasts 10% decline in global olive oil production
Economists at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service forecast a 10% decline in global olive oil production in the 2025/26 crop year, with production expected to fall from 3.331 million to 3.016 million tons. The decline will be felt primarily in the European Union and Turkey.
The USDA forecasts olive oil production in the European Union to decline to 1.98 million tons in 2025/26, down from 2.079 million tons in the previous season. Turkey’s olive oil production will also decline to 275,000 tons from a record 450,000 tons in 2024/25.
A separate USDA report in March forecast that Tunisia’s olive oil production would fall to 200,000 tons, “reflecting the alternating fruiting cycle that produced a bumper crop of 340,000 tons in the 2024/25 season.”
Overall, the USDA expects that production in the rest of the world will likely decline as well, due to adverse weather conditions.
Earlier, it was reported that Azerbaijan would invest $2 million in an olive orchard and oil plant in Dagestan.
