US farmers start sowing corn for the 2024 harvest
As of March 31, corn sowing for the new harvest has started in the US. This is reported by Kurkul.com with reference to the report of USDA experts.
Thus, the sowing started in 6 states. As of the reporting date, 2% of the area was sown, while the average for 5 years was 1%.
By the way, Karen Brown, the global agriculture observer of the US, predicts that the US farmers will reduce corn plantings in favor of soybeans. It is expected that in 2024, the corn plantings will amount to 91.77 mln. acres, which is 3% less than in 2023.
Also, farmers started sowing spring wheat (1%), barley (2%) and sugar beet (1%).
Experts estimate the condition of winter wheat crops to be much better than last year as of the reporting date:
- in excellent condition – 7% (3%);
- in good condition – 49% (25%);
- in satisfactory condition – 33% (36%);
- poor – 7% (20%);
- very poor – 4% (16%).
