According to Kasikorn Research Center, importing corn from the US will allow Thai feed mills and livestock farmers to reduce feed costs by about 8%.

The average price of US corn is about $254 per ton, which is $47-118 cheaper than corn imported from Myanmar and Laos.

Thailand’s need for corn for feed production reaches 8.5 million tons per year, while local production provides only 4.8 million tons. The rest is covered by imports. In 2025, the supply of feed corn is expected to be 2.06 million tons, which is 1.9% more than the previous year.

At the same time, supplies from the US may negatively affect the income of local farmers, as they will put pressure on prices. Experts note that the mismatch between the import period and the harvest season in Thailand will help minimize the effect: about 69.2% of domestic corn production enters the market in the last quarter of the year.
