US and Ukraine are increasing their share of soybean supplies to the EU – UFOP

Soybeans remain the most important oilseed import in the EU, ahead of rapeseed. While soybeans primarily serve to cover the EU’s feed protein deficit, rapeseed imports fill the gap needed for biofuel production. However, in the first three months of the current season, the EU imported less soybeans than last year, according to the German Union for the Promotion of Oilseeds and Cereals (UFOP).
According to the European Commission, from July to early October 2025, the EU imported just under 3.3 million tonnes of soybeans, approximately 129,000 tonnes less than in the same period of the 2024/25 season.
Brazil and the United States remain the main suppliers, although, according to the EU’s research, the former has significantly reduced its import volumes. In the first three months, the EU received approximately 1.8 million tonnes of soybeans from Brazil, approximately 14% less than in the same period of 2024/25. The country’s share of total soybean imports fell to 56.3%.
However, imports from the US increased by approximately 7% over the same period, reaching 970,000 tonnes; the US share of total soybean imports to the EU rose to 29.6%. Import growth from Ukraine was even more significant. The country was able to supply the EU market with approximately 45% more soybeans, reaching 345,000 tonnes.
