Ukrainian producer enters TOP-20 global tomato processors in 2024

According to Tomato News, the 50 largest tomato processing companies processed 30 million tons of tomatoes in 2024, which is ⅔ of the total processing volume worldwide.

The Ukrainian company Agrofusion, despite occupying significant areas of cultivation and processing facilities in the Left Bank of the Kherson region in 2022, is now among the TOP-20 global tomato processors, having processed 459 thousand tons of these vegetables in 2024.

Morning Star Company retains the first position, processing just over 4 million tons at its 3 plants in California, which is almost twice the production of No. 2 COFCO at 12 plants in China. The next three positions are occupied by the only 3 companies in the TOP-50 managing plants on different continents: Kagome, Sugal and Conesa. These five companies, along with Xinjiang Chalkis in China, each process more than 1 million tons per year and together processed 11.9 million tons in 2024, more than a quarter of the total of 45.8 million tons.

There are 11 new companies in the ranking for the first time, 4 of them in China and 2 in Brazil.

Looking at individual countries, 11 of the top 50 are registered in the US (10 of them in California) and 10 in China. Most of the other companies are located in Europe, 5 in South America (Brazil and Chile), 3 in North Africa (Tunisia and Egypt) and only one in Asia (Japan, where N°2 Kagome is headquartered, although most of its volume is processed on other continents).

These 50 companies, headquartered in 14 different countries, operated 151 production sites in 17 countries in 2024, only 15 of which were in the southern hemisphere. Together, they have over 38 million tonnes of total processing capacity, which far exceeds their annual production volume, even in a record year like 2024.
