Ukraine wheat exports reach 95% of target volume

Ukrainian farmers since the beginning of 2019-2020 Marketing Year (MY, July 2019 – June 2020), exported 19.08 million tonnes of wheat, which is 95% of the export ceiling of 20.2 million tonnes, approved by the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade, and Agriculture.

That's according to the data released by the ministry's agrarian department. In total, as of April 4, Ukraine exported 50.9 million tonnes of grains, which is 7.9 million tonnes more year-on-year.

The volume includes 26.4 million tonnes of maize, 4.7 million tonnes of barley, and 8.2 million tonnes of rye.

Also, 297,200 tonnes of wheat flour and other crops was exported, which is 53,000 over the figure recorded for the same period last MY.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in late March, the All-Ukrainian Association of Bakers and Millers Association warned of a 20% hike in prices for bread and pastry in Ukraine due to higher wheat prices against the backdrop of the world coronavirus epidemic. At the same time, the government does not intend to limit the exports of grains, sunflower oil, and other key export items pending the quarantine period, which has been extended until May 22. Earlier, Ukraine approved the ceiling for wheat exports in 2019-2020 MY at the level of 20.2 million tonnes.
