Ukraine. Ukrainian Railways raised rates for cars and is set to increase its fleet of grain carriers
Using a grain car of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) in October will cost UAH 1200/day vs. UAH 1000/day in September. At the same time, Ukrzaliznytsia’s rolling stock is more than 90% worn out. This has resulted from poor performance versus the purchase plan and disregard of crisis developments.
The Infrastructure Minister said Ukrzaliznytsia is set to build and renew more than 30,000 gondola cars and some 15,000 grain cars in the coming years. The average age of its cars will decrease from 23 to 7 years, UkrAgroConsult reports.
