Ukraine Sent Flour to Palestine under the Grain from Ukraine Program
Ukraine has transferred one thousand tons of wheat flour to Palestine as part of the Grain from Ukraine program, an initiative of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The vessel has already arrived in Jordan, from where the flour will be delivered by land.
Two more shipments are planned in the coming months. In total, Ukraine plans to deliver more than seven thousand tons of wheat flour to Palestine under this initiative with the support of donors, including Norway, Austria, Estonia, France, and Iceland.
“Despite the Russian aggression and the constant threat of further attacks on the Ukrainian people, we remain resolute in supporting those who are also suffering. We will continue to do everything possible to ensure that the victims of the war in Palestine do not suffer from hunger,” said Andriy Yermak, Head of the Presidential Office.
The UN World Food Program Office supports Palestinian families by providing flour for baking their own bread and supplying it to local bakeries. A shipment of one thousand tons is enough to provide bread for 101,000 Palestinians per month.
“The Grain from Ukraine initiative supports President Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula as it works to improve food security for millions of people around the world. This shipment to Palestine will be a lifesaver for those caught in the middle of the conflict,” said Dariia Zarivna, Senior Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
Grain from Ukraine is a Ukrainian humanitarian initiative launched by the President of Ukraine on November 26, 2022. It has brought together several dozen countries and international organizations to help countries affected by food shortages. In total, the program has already sent 10 vessels with more than 200,000 tons of wheat and flour to Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Yemen, Nigeria, Sudan, and Palestine.
