Ukraine. Precipitation replenished soil moisture under winter crops
Weather conditions. Air temperature plummeted on October 1-10. The average air temperature turned out to be 0.9-2.6°С below normal, within 2 to 11°С in daytime and 1 to -3.5°С at night.
Moisture supply. Precipitation replenished soil moisture. This helped winter crops planted into dry soil and created favorable conditions for emergence and initial development of plants, reports UkrAgroConsult.
Crop condition. The present weather conditions are favorable for growth and development of winter crops because of sufficient soil moisture and moderate air temperatures, but the situation may deteriorate if heat supply decreases. In addition, due to protracted dry weather, seedlings of winter crops are somewhat sparse in part of the fields, and winter crops have failed to emerge there. Such poor crops will enter the winter in weakened condition and may end up reseeded in the spring.
