Ukraine plans to harvest about 64 million tons of grains and oilseeds in 2023
Ukrainian farmers have already sown more than 1 million hectares of spring crops. It is planned to sow 5.5 million hectares of grains and legumes, which is 5% less than last year.
This was stated by the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy, Oleksandr Haidu, on the committee’s Facebook page.
He noted that farmers may harvest 10% less than last year.
“According to the forecasts, farmers can harvest about 64 million tons of grains and oilseeds. One of the reasons for the decline is unfavorable weather conditions during the sowing season,” said Mr. Gaidu.
Experts note that heavy precipitation, lack of sunny days and a drop in air temperature in the second half of April led to waterlogging of the soil. This delayed the field work.
“We hope that in the future the weather conditions will be favorable for sowing, and the harvest will only grow. After all, Ukrainian farmers provide food for about 400 million people in the world, and the issue of food security depends on them,” added the chairman of the parliamentary committee.
