Ukraine. Over 35 mln tons of grain were transported by rail in 2023/2024 MY
According to current data, 35 million 122 thousand tons of grain cargo were transported by rail in the 2023/2024 marketing year. This is the best figure for the last four years. Such data was announced by Valeriy Tkachev, Deputy Director of the Department of Transportation Technology and Commercial Work of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”, during an online meeting of the company’s representatives with agricultural market participants on July 4.
In June, 3 million 48 thousand tons of grain were transported by rail in all modes of transportation. This is a third more than in the same month of 2023.
In the first six months of this year, 21 mln 850 thsd tonnes of grain were transported. The volume is 30% higher than in the same period last year.
In June, 2 mln 558 thsd tonnes of grain were transported for export, and 18 mln 731 thsd tonnes for the six months. Compared to last year’s figure for the first half of the year, the growth is 43%.
In June, the loading volume reached 2 mln 488 thsd tonnes. For six months, it amounted to 19 million 534 thousand tons. The growth compared to the same period in 2023 is 32%.
Export volumes of oil and oil cake and meals also increased. Thus, in January-June 2024, 954 thousand tons of vegetable oil were transported by rail. This is 30% higher than last year. Transportation of oilcake and meals increased by 19% over six months to 1 million 410 thousand tons.
