Ukraine officially asks Israel to seize ship carrying stolen grain
Ukraine has asked Israel to arrest a Russian ship that may be transporting stolen Ukrainian grain. This was announced by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.
The ship is the PANORMITIS (“Panoramitis”). According to the Prosecutor General, its cargo may be part of a scheme to legalize grain exported from the occupied territories of Ukraine.
Ukraine has already handed over a package of documents to the Israeli side and filed a request for international legal assistance. The documents are currently with the competent authorities of Israel.
What the Ukrainian side demands from Israel
- to arrest the ship and cargo;
- to conduct a search;
- to seize ship and cargo documentation;
- to take grain samples;
- to interrogate crew members.
According to the investigation, the PANORMITIS is transporting grain that was partially exported from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and was heading to the port of Haifa.
At the same time, journalist Kateryna Yaresko of the SeaKrime investigative project of the Myrotvorets Center reported that the PANORMITIS (IMO: 9445021), which arrived in Haifa with a cargo of grain from the occupied territories of Ukraine, has weighed anchor.
“It seems that this time the stolen grain will not be delivered to Israel,” she wrote.
