Ukraine nearly doubles egg exports in the first half of 2025

During the first half of 2025, Ukraine exported 64,800 tonnes of eggs, which is 96% more than in the previous year, the Ukraine Customs Service has revealed. Soaring sales to Europe are reportedly the key driver of the trend.
In monetary terms, exports jumped by 160% to US$87.5 million, the Customs Service calculated. Ukraine primarily exports eggs to Europe. In the first half of the year, 14% of exports landed in Croatia, 12.9% in the UK and 10.9% in Spain.
During the past several years, Ukrainian egg exports experienced a significant shift in sales geography, essentially switching from the Middle East and Asia to the European market.
“At the beginning of the war, all our export chains were disrupted,” Yulia Flerova, general director of Yasensvit, a subsidiary of Ovostar Union, one of the leading egg manufacturers, outlined during an industry conference in Kyiv.
“Later, the movement of products resumed, but in completely different ways. If our company used to export a lot to the Middle East and Africa, now it is mainly [selling eggs] to Europe,” Flerova was quoted as saying by local news outlet Agro Times.
In general, in the European direction, logistics is more straightforward, though Ukrainian egg companies experienced certain difficulties in meeting the regulatory requirements of the EU member states.
“Even in such an association as the EU, each member country has its own nuances of product certification. This means you can’t export eggs according to one standard, for example, to the Netherlands and Belgium or Sweden, since they have different specific requirements. But there are still opportunities for development,” Flerova explained.
In addition, the logistics challenges have also affected sales in the domestic market.
“Due to damage to infrastructure, transport routes, and temporary occupation of territories, it is impossible to deliver products to some frontline zones, and it is extremely difficult to deliver to Kharkiv,” Flerova admitted.
Expanding exports is also believed to be one of the key factors driving up prices on the domestic egg market in 2025. In June 2025, the average egg prices jumped by 59.2% compared with the previous year, government agencies reported.
Against this background, the Ukrainian Antimonopoly Agency reported it had found signs of violation of the laws about competition by the 2 largest Ukrainian egg manufacturers.
