Linseed harvest fluctuates considerably. But since 2004, the area increased from 15 K ha to 54 K ha in 2024. The 2024 Ukraine linseed crop was the largest since 2017, yield recovered.
More than 80% of the crop was exported with the EU as the main buyer (Italy, Poland, Belgium). After a 2023/24 record exports of 70 K mt, 2024/25 exports were about 24% lower, but the destinations broadened across the EU, and also UK, Switzerland, Moldova, Turkey and North Africa.
EU buyers limited russian linseed imports in 2022 and diversified toward Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Canada.
Flax yields have traditionally remained variable, reflecting the significant impact of climate fluctuations.
Price over the last year rose by more than 27 %, improving farm incentives. Linseed prices are stable firm, making the crop margin attractive for farmers, especially for small and mid-sized.
For 2025/26, UkrAgroConsult working view is more area but the crop remains niche.
